A very original Westfalia Continental
1973 - RHD
There is an amazing history file with this camper including the "New Car Order Form" from Headway Motors in Surrey when Mr Harold James of Sutton, placed his order for his brand new camper, finished in Pastel White (L90D) over Orient Blue (L53H) with beige basket weave cab seats and door cards.
There are many service receipts including those from Volkswagen main dealers up to 1985 in the stamped service book.
It still has its original VW instruction books, and a very early form of ‘computerised’ diagnostic service record book along with a copy of the Westfalia Continental instructions
It was restored in 2017 and only travelled around 6000 miles since including many times back & forth to Devon under my ownership.
The Continental is a really popular family van, with everything you need. There are 3 extra seat belts fitted to the rear seat. The ingenious swing out table can be positioned to suit & allows all the family of 4 to sit around for meal times and an evening game of cards. Behind that you have the full length wardrobe, with the vanity mirror for Mum to do her hair while Dad flips the gas hob down and cooks the bacon sarnies.
Afterwards the kids can do the washing up. You can see it has plenty of storage & flip down worktops. When you raise the roof, the light floods in through the unzipped panels which have sewn in fly screens to protect you from the mozzies. Close the panels for privacy at bed time. There are 2 solid beds making it a 4 berth. The rock'n'roll bed “downstairs" and the one above are so big and comfy.
Look through the pictures and you'll see the 1600cc original engine with just over 85,000 miles from new, (refreshed at restoration) louvered windows, built in rear roof rack, the list goes on.
